The Kitchener-Waterloo region of southern Ontario has a long-standing history of cricket dating back to 1895, when the first club was established in Waterloo. The Southern Ontario Cricket Association (SOCA) league began around the time of World War I, and initially, the clubs were primarily formed by immigrants from the Caribbean. As time progressed, more immigrants from South Asian countries such as India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka began settling in the Kitchener-Waterloo area, and they joined the existing clubs, which were run according to the cricketing traditions of the Caribbean.
